Who is this workshop for?
Are you (or do you know) someone who benefits from white and male privilege, who is committed to racial and gender justice? Welcome. Whether you are new to the movement or a longtime organizer, working for social justice from a position of white and male privilege requires us to continually do the inner work needed to transform the ways white supremacy and patriarchy have shaped us, while also showing up in solidarity with Black, indigenous, POC, women, non-binary and trans communities. The Challenging White Male Supremacy Workshop Series serves as a space for those of us with white and male privilege to come together in community to do this work, while centering and taking our lead from those most impacted by these systems of oppression.
What will we do in the workshop?
This workshop, Beyond Going ‘Back to Normal’ invites us into visioning a just world for ourselves and all people. Patriarchy and white supremacy are always trying to get us to adopt their own visions–ones that are severely oppressive for most people, and which give us a few privileges, while ultimately oppressing our most authentic selves, too. Through a mixture of self-reflection, group dialogue, and somatic practice, we will feel into a future that is liberatory for all people: Black, brown, women, non-binary and trans folks, disabled folks, poor and working class folks, and ourselves. One of the tools patriarchy and white supremacy uses is disconnecting us from our sensations: the tingles, temperatures, and bodily contractions from which we empathize and feel with others. By rooting into these sensations and their wisdom, while continuing to center the vision of those most impacted by systems of oppression, we can move forward into action from a place of authenticity and love.
Could this be the start of something?
This workshop will also connect you with opportunities for future work, including further organizing and actions you can take (with STAND and others) towards creating a more just world. Looking forward to having you with us!
